Get involved

This place runs on neighbors like you.

There's a place for every pair of hands here, in the kitchen, on the truck, in the garden, or beside a teen learning to code. Tell us what you're interested in and we'll be in touch within a week.

Where we need hands right now

These are our real, current needs. If you can do one of these, you’ll be put to work.

🚚 Food pickup runs

Collect donated food from stores, farms, and partner pantries and bring it back to Second Street. A car or van and a free morning is all it takes.

📦 Grocery packing & distribution

Sort, bag, and hand out groceries with the Thursday 12 to 1 pm distribution. Steady, sociable work and the shift most often short-handed.

🔧 Building maintenance & repairs

An old building needs handy people. Painting, patching, plumbing, carpentry, small fixes, seasonal work. Skilled trades especially welcome.

🍳 Kitchen crew

Cook and serve the Monday 5:45 dinner and the Thursday 12 to 1 pm lunch.

🥬 Fridge stockers

Keep the Free Food Fridge out front full and tidy.

🌱 Garden hands

Plant, weed, and harvest for the food program.

💻 Tech for Teens mentors

Share your skills with the next generation.

🎉 Event helpers

CROP Walk, FEAST!, Forty Flames, and more.

Tell us what you are drawn to and how much time you have. There is no minimum, and we will come back to you about a shift that fits.

A note about the Furniture Program

People ask about this one a lot, so, honestly: our furniture crew is usually covered, and we don’t often need individual volunteers for pickups and deliveries. What we can use is a large work group, a congregation, a company team, a student org, with enough notice for us to line up a big job worth your while. If that’s you, get in touch and let’s put a date on the calendar.

Two hours can change a week

You don’t need experience or a long-term commitment, just show up. A single shift in the kitchen, at the grocery table, or in the garden makes a real difference for a neighbor, and most volunteers find they come back.
