The Furniture Program
A fresh start deserves a furnished home.
Since 1986, TAUM's Furniture Program has given good, used furniture, free of charge, to neighbors starting over: families leaving shelters, women and children escaping domestic violence, people recovering from a fire, seniors and neighbors living on very little. A bed to sleep in and a table to eat at shouldn't be luxuries.

Need furniture?
Most furniture requests come to us through a referral. If you are working with a caseworker at a local agency, shelter, or congregation, ask them to get in touch with us. If you are not working with anyone yet, call and we will help you figure out the next step. Furniture and delivery are always free.

No extension needed. You can also write to lmalatesta@taum.org.
Have furniture to give?
We come to you. Give Tyara a call and we will schedule a pickup from your home.

Or send photos of the furniture, with your name and the best way to reach you, to (838) 304-3982. That line takes texts only, not calls.
A referral comes first
Most furniture requests need a referral from a caseworker at an agency, shelter, or congregation we work with. If you do not have a caseworker, call us anyway. We will work with you to find the right door.
Referring a client? If you work at an agency, shelter, or congregation, call our main number, (518) 274-5920, and ask us to send you a referral form.
✓ We accept
Clean, good-condition:
- Beds (twin, full and queen)
- Bedframes with a small footprint
- Dressers
- Tables
- Chairs
- Living room furniture
Remember, our furniture recipients are usually coming out of homelessness and domestic violence situations into small apartments, and big pieces of furniture often don’t fit. Small footprint furniture, such as highboy dressers and loveseats, often work the best.
✗ We can’t accept
- Sleeper sofas
- China cabinets
- Heavily floral print upholstery
- Damaged furniture needing repair
Not sure? Call us. We’d rather answer a question than turn away a donation.
Keep the truck rolling
We respectfully request a monetary donation to accompany every furniture donation. Every pickup and delivery costs money: gas, insurance, and the strong backs of our small crew. A gift of any size keeps furniture moving to the families who need it.
